The "Saint Marina" Church in Plovdiv was built in 1561, accotdin to Georgi Tzukala.

In 1611 it was burnt down.On the initiative of the citizens of Plovdiv and with the support of metropolitan Cyril it was rubuilt in 1783. After some repair in 1851-1853 the church assumed its modern look. The architectural complex is complemented by a big yard, paved with stone tiles, and a wooden 6-floor belfry (17 m high), built in 1869.Next to the church is the home of Plovdiv metropolitan. The ciborium of the altar, the bishop`s throne and the fretwork iconostasis were made be master Yoan Pshkula. He was the master who made the baroque iconostasis of "St.St.Konstantin and Elena"church in the Old part of Plovdiv.

The chancelscreen was vitalized by the icons of The Blessed Virgin and Jesus Christ - a work of the first Bulgarian highly educated painter Stanislav Dospevski.
