| In
1611 it was burnt down.On the initiative of the citizens
of Plovdiv and with the support of metropolitan Cyril it
was rubuilt in 1783. After some repair in 1851-1853 the
church assumed its modern look. The architectural complex
is complemented by a big yard,paved with stone tiles,and
a wooden 6-floor belfry (17 m high), built in 1869.Next
to the church is the home of Plovdiv metropolitan.The ciborium
of the altar, the bishop`s throne and the fretwork iconostasis
were made be master Yoan Pshkula.He was the master who made
the baroque iconostasis of "St.St.Konstantin and Elena"church
in the Old part of Plovdiv. |

chancelscreen was vitalized by the icons of The Blessed
Virgin and Jesus Christ - a work of the first Bulgarian
highly educated painter Stanislav Dospevski.
